Mrs. Cheryl Ann Guidry Hayes OPELOUSAS- Funeral Services will be held at 9:00 AM Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Opelousas, Louisiana for Mrs. Cheryl Hayes, 61, who departed this life on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at University Medical Center in Lafayette, Louisiana. Interment will be in Garden of Memory Cemetery. Father Jaison Mangalath, SVD, will conduct the Mass of Christian burial. Cheryl Ann (Bo) Guidry Hayes was born in Opelousas, Louisiana on February 24, 1953 to Louis and Josephine Guidry, Sr. She was married to the late Raymond Hayes, Jr., and from this union four children were born, three daughters and one son. Cheryl touched many people and children’s lives throughout her life. She worked as a teacher’s assistant for the St. Landry Parish School District for twenty years and at Prompt Succor Nursing Home for eight years. She was available with open arms caring for her little nieces and nephews. Cheryl enjoyed making pecan pralines and sweet potato pies that savored the taste buds of many. One of her favorite passions was politics. She was an avid supporter campaigning for the local candidates during election seasons. She wanted to know all of the November 2014 results until the end of her journey. She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Tonja Hayes and JoHanna Hayes; one son, Raymond Hayes, III; two grandchildren, Damiona (Princess) Hayes and Damien (Poopie) Thomas, Jr.; two nieces she nurtured, Kescheler Hayes and Kia Crawford; one great niece, Aaliyah Richard; one great nephew, Darren Lewis; one brother, Louis Guidry, Jr.; six sisters, Yvonne Richard, Leavy Duvernay, Vernell Mitchell, Angella G. Shorten, Ruth and Yvette; a host of beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews; two sisters-in-law, Vanessa Crawford and Alice Guidry; one brother-in-law, Alfred Mitchell; and a host of cousins and loving friends; and Mary, Shonnie, Rita, and Kissie. She will be missed by all of us. Cheryl was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Hayes, Jr.; her beautiful daughter, Haley Brasha Hayes; her sisters, Elizabeth (Betty Ann Guidry) and Jacqueline Ann Mitchell; and her parents, Louis and Josephine Guidry, Sr. Visiting hours will be observed from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM Friday, November 14, 2014 at Williams Funeral Home in Opelousas, LA. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue at the funeral home from 7:00 AM until 8:30 AM Saturday, November 15, 2014.
