St. Louis Murphy Sr. “Poochie” September 8, 1939 – April 4, 2015 OPELOUSAS- Funeral services will be held at 10:35 AM on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the Starlight Baptist Church, Reverend Paul L. Murphy, Sr., in Opelousas, La for St. Louis Murphy, Sr., 75, who entered into eternal rest on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at his home surrounded by his beloved wife, Laura Murphy at 1:15PM. St. Louis will be laid to rest in Serenity Memorial Park Cemetery, following his services. Minister John Murphy, Sr. of Living Word Ministries will officiate the services. St. Louis was born in Opelousas, La to the late Willie & Lillian Murphy, Sr. He was baptized at an early age by Reverend Adam Joseph at Starlight Baptist Church. He received his GED from the St. Landry Parish School System. He worked as a head custodian at Northeast Elementary School, W.L. Construction, Woodson Construction and belonged to the Pipeline Union 692 and worked at the Lafayette Regional Airport until his retirement to his love of growing vegetables and raising cattle. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Laura Manuel Murphy, and to this union seven children were born, 4 sons and 3 daughters. St. Louis was a loving, caring- giving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son and brother who loved the Lord. His had many jobs such as gardening, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a good friend to many people and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. St. Louis is survived by his wife, Laura Manuel Murphy, 4 sons; Tyrone J. Murphy Sr.; St. Louis Murphy (Tamera); Shawn Murphy, and Bryan Murphy, all of Opelousas, La. 4 daughters; Rolanda Murphy (Cleon)of Houston ,Tx; Paula Murphy(Peter) of Opelousas, La; Charmona Murphy- Henry (Keith); Patrice Forbes (James) of Carencro, La.; 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; 6 brothers; Willie Murphy, Jr.; Joseph Murphy; John Murphy, Sr. (Elaine); Paul L. Murphy, Sr. (Charisse); all of Opelousas, La and Lincolon Murphy of Houston, Tx; 3 sisters, Helen Adams and Frances Murphy-Leday of Opelousas, La and Nell Miller, of Houston, Tx; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other close relatives and friends. Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Lillian Murphy, as well as two brothers, Clary Murphy and Abraham Murphy, and one sister Dorothy Murphy-Reed; maternal grandparents; Andrew and Clara Hayes; paternal grandparents, Orea Denton- Horton and John Murphy. Visiting hours will be observed from 8:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the Starlight Baptist Church in Opelousas, La.
