Ms. Atheta Lewis

Atheta Lewis, M.A. Atheta Lewis affectionately known as “Lilbit” to her family, departed this life on January 21, 2025, at her home in Opelousas, LA at the age of 58. She was a native of Boutte, LA, and a resident of Opelousas, LA. Atheta was educated in the St. Charles Parish School System and a proud graduate of Hahnville High School Class of 1984 and received her Bachelor of Science in Business and Masters of Arts in Education from Ashford University. Atheta was born December 10. 1966, to the late Hubert Jr and Irene Lewis. She was the mother of Je’Lysa and De’Lysa Pardo. She was the sister of Vanessa Lewis of Houston Texas, Lisa Lewis and Sharon Williams of Opelousas, LA, Shela Sandolph and Deborah Mott (late Myron) of Boutte, LA. The apple of her eyes were her grandchildren, Joseph Gant Jr. (Doodie), Jaliyah Pardo, and Jacere Gant. She was the godmother of Shamira Williams. She was truly loved and adored by her 7 nieces Maria, Joyce, Shamira, Rakia, Diamond, Myrionne, and Queen and her 5 nephews, Frank, Jonas, Dedrick, Jamyron, and the late Ronald. Atheta will be missed by all who knew and loved her especially all her adopted kids from the City of Opelousas who affectionately referred to her as Mama A. Atheta was known for her magnificent cooking skills that she always posted on her Facebook page for all to adore and fed anyone that came to her door and wanted a plate. When she wasn’t trying out new recipes, Atheta was nose deep in a good book or watching a good movie. She was definitely a critic in her own right and didn’t hesitate to share her opinions and give recommendations to anyone who’d ask. Atheta loved children and worked with them for several years. She was the owner and operator of, “All God’s Children” childcare center in Norcross, GA. Even after the closure of her daycare, she continued to touch the children in her community in anyway she could. Atheta loved the Lord and was frequently heard smiling and say, “That’s my song,” when she heard her favorite gospel song, I’m Still Holding On by Luther Barnes and The Red Bud Gospel Choir. Atheta was baptized by the late Dr. Robert Pardo, Sr. at Mount Zion Baptist Church of Boutte, Louisiana where she was member of the Usher Board until she moved to Norcross, Georgia in 1990. While living in Georgia, she placed her membership at Central Baptist Church of Norcross under the leadership of the late Rev. Erven Kimble. Atheta is preceded in death by her parents, Hubert, Jr. and Irene Lewis, brother-in-law, Myron Mott Sr., nephew, Ronald Lewis and great niece, Kennedy Coleman. Relative and friends of the family, Pastors, Officers and Members of Spirit of Elijah Life Institute Church, and Mt. Zion Community Church of Boutte, LA are invited to attend the funeral service at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Spirit of Elijah Life Institute Church located at 2104 Bertha Street Opelousas, LA. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am at the church. Pastor Chris Lazard will be Officiating the service. Interment will be private. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Williams Funeral Home of Opelousas, 337-942-2037.
