Bessie Gordon On Friday, July 24, 2020 Bessie Marie Doyle Gordon departed this earth and peacefully went on to glory. Bessie was born on September 10, 1948 to the late Lessie Mary Ned Doyle and Lester Doyle, the oldest of seven children, in Eunice Louisiana. Bessie was always a leader and sought to be excellent in every way. She was loving, kind, compassionate, intelligent, funny and always lent a listening ear. Bessie accepted the Lord at an early age; she was baptized by the late Rev. Wilkerson at Greater True Light Baptist Church. Bessie was a faithful member of New Zion Baptist Church. She continued to allow the Lord to guide her throughout her life. She graduated from Charles Drew High School in 1966 in the top ten of her class. After high school, Bessie attended Bishop College in Dallas, Texas. Always wanting to be the best, Bessie transferred to Dillard University in New Orleans, LA to continue her studies in Nursing. While attending Dillard, she met Grenes Nolan Gordon and fell in love, and on June 20, 1971, Bessie and Nolan were united in holy matrimony. To this union three daughters were born. Bessie devoted her life to her family; especially her daughters and grandchildren. Bessie went above the call of duty, to raise her children. Bessie lived in Port Arthur, TX and was a faithful member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. She worked multiple jobs to ensure all of their needs and wants were met. She was a pharmacy technician at Walgreens and St. Mary’s Hospital, for over 20 years, before moving back to Louisiana, where she became the office manager for Good Shepherd Home Health. She retired from Good Shepherd to take care of her mother. Upon returning to Eunice, Bessie reunited with New Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She was a faithful tithing member. Bessie was a member of the mission, and read for the devotional when ever asked. Bessie loved to travel, and she traveled the world, with her mother, sisters, daughters, grandchildren and friends. She enjoyed seeing the Buckingham Palace, the Eiffel Tower, the Guggenheim museum, walking the cobblestones of Bordeaux, pulling the slot machines, and walking in the water at Myrtle Beach and Destin with her grandchildren. She loved music and attended numerous concerts and jazz cruises. Bessie leaves to cherish her memory three daughters Tonia Gordon of Atlanta, GA; Tammy Gordon and Toisha Gordon-Mitchell (Andre) both of Eunice, LA. Six sisters Beryl Brown and Mona Mitchell (Ernest) both of Eunice, LA; Veronica Woodard of Lake Charles, LA; Rita Frazier (Alvin) and Emma Burley both of Port Arthur, Texas. She had two grandchildren, Brandon Ndubueze and Taylor Mitchell both of Eunice, LA and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grenes Nolan Gordon; her mother, Lessie Ned Doyle; her father, Lester Doyle and one brother, Phillip Murray Doyle. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, July 31, 2020 at Word Ministries in Eunice, LA. Viewing will begin at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in Honey Bee Cemetery in Eunice, LA.
