Mrs. Cecilia R. Dauterive Mrs. Cecilia R. Dauterive, age 91, entered eternal rest on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Senior Village Nursing Home. Mrs. Dauterive was a lifelong member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. She was active in a number of ministries and organizations including: St. Joseph Alter Society, Senior Sodality, Holy Ghost Adult Choir, CCD teacher and money counter. She was a member of the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary Holy Ghost Court 8 for over 50 years and a charter member of the Meritorious Fourth Degree Ladies of Grace Chapter 7. Mrs. Dauterive graduated from Holy Ghost High School. At an early age, she knew her career path would be in education. This passion led her to attend THE Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA where she received her Bachelors Degree and Master’s +30 Degree in Elementary Education. She retired from Acadia Parish School System after teaching second grade for 26.5 years. Then, taught a few years at North Elementary before retiring again. Mrs. Dauterive’s love for children was seen not only in the children she taught by also in how she cared for her nieces, nephews, great- nieces, and great-nephews. She often brought them into her home and cared for them as if they were her own. Mrs. Dauterive was known as the family seamstress. Every stich was made with love and she made sure her daughter, nieces, sisters and friends looked their very best. Her love for God and family was evident not only in her actions but also in her daily prayers. She started her day at 3 AM with prayer and attended morning mass daily. She sat in the same church pew every day. She could also be found praying her rosary all throughout the day. If you have every asked her to pray for you, please know that she did. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Opelousas, Louisiana, with Father Joshua Munterim, SVD, officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be observed from 7:30 AM until 11:30 AM at Williams Funeral Home prior to the service. Interment will follow in Bellevue Memorial Park. Mrs. Dauterive is survived by her daughter, Toni Dauterive of Opelousas, LA; three sisters, Mary Ann R. Broussard of Opelousas, LA, Mary Louise Thomas of Opelousas, LA and Theresa Rami of Houston, TX; one grandchild, Omari Matthew Dauterive and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Dauterive was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Dauterive, Jr.; parents, Tony and Julia Robert; two sisters, Ophelia R. Lazard and Elizabeth R. Chavis; five brothers, Anthony Robert, II, John Robert, Joseph Robert, Johnies Robert and James Robert.
