Funeral services will be held privately on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Plaisance Community, Opelousas, LA for Mr. Freddie Bertrand, Jr. who entered eternal rest on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home of Opelousas, in the comfort care of Grace Hospice. Freddie “Fred” Bertrand, Jr. was born on July 5th, 1950, the 8th child from the union of Freddie Bertrand Sr. and Louise Malveaux of Plaisance. He was baptized at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Plaisance. He graduated from Plaisance High School in 1968. Fred Jr. moved to Beaumont, TX and worked as a Master Welder. He married Geraldlynn Leger of which union they were blessed with three sons, Corey, Reginald and Freddie III. Fred Jr. eventually returned home to Opelousas, Louisiana. He was the primary caretaker of his father who suffered a stroke in 1991. Once Freddie Sr resided at Prompt Succor Nursing Home, Fred Jr. attended every Sunday mass with him at the chapel until his beloved father’s passing. Fred Jr. enjoyed sports, old movies and the History Channel. He could be found on his tractor or lawnmower tending to the property, a favorite pastime of his. On October 3, 2020, Freddie Bertrand Jr. transitioned into eternal rest at Heritage Manor of Opelousas, LA. He leaves to cherish his memory his son Freddie Bertrand, III of Houston, TX, his grandchildren Denecia, Deja, Freddie IV, Dynazia. Siblings, Rosa Harris (Aaron) of Washington, LA; Ruby Broussard (Wilson) of Beaumont, TX; Helen Colwell, Mildred LeBlanc, Aaron Bertrand (Brenda), Gerry Pate (Willie) all of Houston, TX; Glendon Bertrand of Opelousas, LA; sister-in-law Johnnie Lee Bertrand of Beaumont, TX; and his companion Pearl Robinson of Opelousas, LA. Fred is preceded in death by his parents, Freddie and Louise M. Bertrand; his sons, Corey Bertrand and Reginald Bertrand; and his brother Eugene “Billy” Bertrand. Visiting hours will be observed privately on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Plaisance, LA from 9:30 A.M. to 10:45 A.M.
