Mrs. Goldie Ann Auzenne Broussard

On March 5, 2021, Goldie transitioned peacefully into eternal rest in Houston, Texas, surrounded by her family. She was 90 years old. Goldie Ann Auzenne Broussard was born on December 12, 1930, the third of five children of Vincent S. and Armontine Frilot Auzenne of Frilot Cove, Louisiana. Goldie was educated from kindergarten through twelfth grade at Holy Ghost Catholic School, graduating in 1948. She received her Bachelor’s, Master’s and Specialist degrees at Southern University and Texas Southern University, respectively. On December 18, 1954, she was united in matrimony to the love of her life, Howard J. Broussard, and from this union came three children. Goldie and Howard raised their family and lived in the Opelousas area all of their lives. As a Special Education Teacher and Strategist in the St. Landry Parish school system for over forty years, Goldie lived her passion of working with children. She devoted her life to caring for many others in need as well. Goldie found special joy in spending time with family members and friends and shared her abundant gifts of service and generosity. Goldie thrived on service to the community and remained active in many state and local organizations. She was a faithful member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Goldie believed in the persistent power of prayer. She attended mass daily for many years, and served the Church in any capacity needed. Goldie leaves a lifetime of beautiful memories to her son, Dwane G. Broussard (Judy) of Houston, Texas, and daughter, Linda Broussard Tolbert (Tyke), of Ridgewood, New Jersey; four grandchildren whom she treasured and adored, Andrew Broussard and Matthew Broussard of Houston, Texas, and Morgan Tolbert and Madison Tolbert of Ridgewood, New Jersey; a brother-in-law, Charles E. Honore’, and two sisters-in-law, Velma Plummer and Julie Auzenne. She also loved and held a special place in her heart for her many nieces, nephews and godchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard J. Broussard; son, Byron V. Broussard; parents, Vincent and Armontine Auzenne; two sisters, Rubertha Auzenne and Martha Jane Honore’; two brothers, Harold Auzenne and Marks James Auzenne, and innumerable special relatives and friends who joyfully welcome her. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 12, 2021 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Opelousas, Louisiana. Viewing will begin at 12:00 p.m. with the funeral mass at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at St. Ann Catholic Church Cemetery in Frilot Cove, Louisiana.
