Ms. Janie Mary Dupre

Ms. Janie M. Dupre Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM Friday, June 7, 2024 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA, for Ms. Janie M. Dupre, 85, Interment will be in Bellevue Memorial Park. Rev. Justin Arockiasamy, S.V.D. will officiate at the Mass of Christian burial. On May 29, 2024, God plucked a beautiful flower to add to his garden. Janie M. Dupre entered eternal life at the age of 85. She transitioned peacefully. Janie M. Dupre was united in marriage to Alfred R. Dupree, Sr. and from this union three children were born. Janie accepted the Lord at an early age. She was a lifelong member of the Holy Ghost Catholic Church. When she was no longer able to attend, she watched mass and rosary daily. She was always interested in what was going on at the church and was kept well informed. Janie taught in the St. Landry Parish School System for 30 plus years. She loved her students and also worked as a counselor to guide and encourage them. Janie attended Holy Ghost School where she graduated middle school and J. S. Clark where she graduated high school. Janie obtained her B.A. from Southern University in 1971 and her M.Ed, also from Southern University in 1979. Her focus was on elementary grade students. Janie loved her children and grandchildren tremendously. She was an avid listener and a great comforter and encourager. Janie loved everything about the arts. She enjoyed listening to multiple genres of music, watching movies and multiple sporting events. She loved educational and religious programming as well. Janie loved to travel whether it was near or far. She also enjoyed taking care of her plants. Janie leaves to cherish her memory (3) three children, Alfred R. Dupree, Jr. (Sondria) of Opelousas, LA. John Michael Dupre of Atlanta, GA and Sheryl Dupre-Clark (Clifton) of Opelousas, LA, (4) four grandchildren, Krystal Thomas (Artessa), Kishanda Barnaba (Jonathan), Robert Thomas (Alexis) and Keevon Clark all of Opelousas, LA; eight great grandchildren, Nevaeh Stelly, Raylan Thomas, Kamani Richard, Ryan Thomas, Carmello Barnaba, Chase Barnaba, Jaylen Barnaba and Laila Barnaba; sisters, Rebecca Marks of Portland, OR, Jocelyn Marks of Los Angeles, CA, Margaret Thompson (Arthur) of Shreveport, LA, and Carolyn Marks of Atlanta, GA; aunt Juanita Blackwell and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Janie was preceded in death by her parents, Carlton B. Marks and Viola Valmont Marks; her brothers, Merrit P. Marks and James A. Marks; a very special granddaughter, Katie Lynn Dupree and great grandson baby, Kadon Alfred Harris and a host of aunts, uncles and other relatives. Visiting hours will be observed from 8:00 AM to 11:45 AM Friday, June 7, 2024 at Williams Funeral Home.
