OPELOUSAS - Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas, LA for Jerry (August) Hicks,62, who entered eternal rest Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Opelousas General Health System in Opelousas, LA. Interment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington, LA. Mr. Hicks is survived by his wife Shirley Mitchell Hicks of Opelousas, LA; two sons Cody James Hicks and Jerry L. Hicks, Jr. both of Opelousas, LA; two daughters Nicole Hicks and Darlene Hicks both of Opelousas, LA; five brothers Alvin August, Aaron Hicks, Sr. and Brian Broussard (Chastity) all of Opelousas, LA, Loran P. Hicks Sr. (Stephanie) of Washington, LA, and Herbert Hicks, Jr. of Houston, TX; nine sisters Dianne H. Gilbert of Port Barre, LA, Bernice Green Hicks of Galveston, TX, Dorothy Joubert, Juanita Hicks Lazard, Geneva Hicks Sonnier (James) all of Opelousas, LA, Brenda Hicks Thomas (Rolton, Jr.), Sharon Hicks and Felicia Bernard (Micko) all of Washington, LA and Debra Chavis (Joseph); a mother-in-law Essie Mitchell of Nashville, TN; five brother-in-laws Curtis Mitchell of Nashville, TN, Ronald W. Mitchell of Cincinnati, OH, William Smith of Florida, Doris Mitchell, Jr. of Lake Charles, LA, and David Smith of Washington D.C.; four sister-in-laws Cheryl Guillory, Clara Hicks and Julia Darbonne of Opelousas, LA and Jackie S. Jones of Nashville, TN; ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends. Mr. Hicks was a graduate of Washington High, Class of 1970 and a retiree of the St. Ladry Parish School System (Creswell Elementary School). Mr. Hicks was proceeded in death by his parents Herbert Hicks, Sr. and Lela Bell August Hicks, stepmother Lillian R. Hicks, one brother Learon Hicks, Sr., maternal and paternal grandparents, a father-in-law Doris Mitchell, Sr., four brothers-in-law Jim Jones of Nashville, TN, Raymond Lazard, Sr., Jacob Joubert, Sr., Jimmy Gilbert, Sr. and two sister-in-laws Juanita August and Joyce Hicks. Visiting hours will be observed from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM, Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Williams Funeral Home in Opelousas, LA.
