Opelousas, LA----Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA, for Mr. Lawrence Zachaire, Sr., 87, of Opelousas, LA; who passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, LA. Rev. Jaison Mangalath, S.V.D. will be officiating the funeral mass. Interment will be at St. Landry Cemetery in Opelousas, LA. Mr. Zachaire was a life time member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, member of Council #8- Assembly 7 Knights of St. Peter Claver 3rd and 4th Degree, member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church Choir, St. Landry Triad for the Sheriff Department, AARP member, Stewart for Operative Plaster and Cement Mason International Association Local 685 for 50+ years, NAACP Member, advocate for the right to vote and he also spearheaded transportation from Opelousas to Baton Rouge for students to attend Southern University. He leaves behind to mourn his passing three daughters: Joyce Zachaire Charles of Houston, TX, Barbara Zachaire and Beverly (David) Carney of Lafayette, Louisiana; three sons Lawrence Zachaire, Jr. of Opelousas, Louisiana, Joseph Lee (Victoria) Zachaire of Houston, Texas, and John (Cindy) Zachaire of Carencro, Louisiana; one sister Helen Z. Boutte of Opelousas, Louisiana; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was proceeded in death by his loving wife Mary Lou Dejean Zachaire, his parents Celestine and Hilda Landreau Zachaire; daughter: Josephine Zachaire; sisters Luverda Zachaire, Nellie Eaglin, Ethel Zachaire; brothers: Sidney and Irvin Zachaire; and one grandson: Corey D. Zachaire. Visitation will be observed at Carney Funeral Home in Lafayette, LA, Wednesday, April 3, 2013 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and Williams Funeral Home in Opelousas, LA, Thursday, April 4, 2013 from 6:00 A.M. until time of services.
