Mr. Leonard Nash

Leonard Nash, a caring family man, community leader, and cherished friend, peacefully passed away on August 23, 2023, at home in Opelousas, LA, at the age of 79 years. Born in Palmetto, Louisiana on October 18, 1943, Leonard's journey through life was a testament to love, faith, and commitment to education. Leonard was preceded in death by his mother, Edmonia PuJue, and his father, Charles Nash. He was also reunited with his beloved sister Debra Nash, and his brothers Charles Nash and Parnell Nash. Leonard was an active member within the Knights of Peter Claver community, spreading faith and hope through friendship and unity. He was affiliated with other organizations that advocated for creating equal opportunities for mankind. Leonard championed the Gospel message, demonstrating his commitment through a practice of faith, hope, and love. Deeply valuing education, Leonard believed in the power of knowledge to uplift individuals and communities. He graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1975 and a Masters from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1978. Starting from a young age, Leonard held a strong advocacy for civil rights, standing firmly for the betterment of all people. His unwavering dedication to education, advocacy for civil rights, and his commitment to positive change wove together a legacy that will continue for generations through his children. Leonard always had a passion for photography. During his early adult years, he nurtured this passion and became a freelance photographer for a few years. He had a knack for capturing life's most precious and fleeting moments through the lens of his Canon camera. Whether it was family gatherings or small get-togethers, he never missed a chance to take pictures and create lasting memories. He also found solace and joy in nurturing his garden, a reflection of his love for life's simple and natural beauty. Furthermore, his insatiable wanderlust led him on countless travels, appreciating diverse cultures and experiences that enriched his perspective. Moreover, Leonard was also a skilled mechanic, gifts he acquired through his upbringing and work alongside his father during his adolescent years. This exposure ignited a realization and enthusiasm for hands-on craftsmanship, empowering him to repair and build things for his home. His resourcefulness and ability to bring his ideas to life were truly commendable. Leonard's memory will forever be cherished by his loving children: Erik Edmond Nash (Myla) of Lapu-Lapu City, Philippines; Leah LaShawn Nash of Houston, Texas; Andwele' Linton Nash (liana)of Houston, Texas; Liede' Teleza Armetus Nash Husband of Atlanta, Georgia; and Edmonia Victoria Nash of Opelousas, Louisiana. He was a proud grandfather to Raymond Duplechain (Jennifer), LeJae Husband, Maddox Husband, Jeryl Morgan, Priscilla Morgan, Micah Malone, Addisyn Nash, Janet Nash, Lilah Husband, Ava Nash, Genesis Nash, Nolan Nash, and his great-grandchildren Titan Duplechain and Zoe Duplechain. Leonard's life was marked by his dedication to his family, his community, and his faith. He will be remembered for his wisdom and his ability to bring people together. As he embarks on his next journey, he will be missed but his legacy will continue to live on. A celebration of Leonard's life and legacy will take place at Holy Ghost Church on September 2, 2023 at 10:00 AM. Visiting hours will be observed from 7:00 AM to 9:45 AM Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Williams Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest at St. John Baptist, 6002 Highway 71 Palmetto, LA alongside his grandmother Eula Nash and his aunt Gladys Nash-PuJue.
