OPELOUSAS- Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Little Zion Baptist Church in Opelousas, LA for Mrs. Lucille Trahan Ballard, 81, who entered eternal rest on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Opelousas General Health System in Opelousas, LA. Interment will be in Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas, LA. Rev. Calvin Moore officiating. Mrs. Lucille Ballard is survived by her husband of 56 years, Cabbot D. (C.D.) Ballard of Opelousas, LA; three sons, Michael (Sylvia) Ballard of Manvel, TX, Darren (Erika) Ballard of Opelousas, LA and Markham (Edith) Ballard, Sr. of Houston, TX; four daughters, Monnica Ballard Lamb of Rowlett, TX, Phaedra (Samuel) Ballard Dinkins of Houston, TX, Iris Ballard of Opelousas, LA and Rhona Ballard of Lafayette, LA; one sister, Philomena (Howard) Trahan Bond of Chicago, IL; 21 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, three special nieces, Shelia Chachere Haynes of Opelousas, LA, Jimmie K. Porter and Anita Harris both of New Iberia, LA; four sisters-in-law, Sydalese B. Jackson and Lorainne B. Underwood both of Opelousas, LA, Imogene W. Ballard; Houston, TX and Loyce B. Greene of Baton Rouge, LA; one brother-in-law, Lawrence (Joyce) Ballard, Jr. of Houston, TX and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends. Mrs. Lucille Ballard was preceded in death by her parents Demas Trahan and Clara Broussard, seven brothers Albert, Alton, Earnest, Moses, Edwin, Lionel, Joseph Chargois and John Berard and two sisters, Virginia Richard and Hazel Chatman. Mrs. Ballard was a devoted member of Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church where in 2010 she received the “Give Me My Flowers” award and served as a Deaconess until her death. She was a member of Frontier’s International and Life Companion’s at Opelousas General Hospital. Noted seamstresses in the greater Opelousas area, outstanding cook and man could she bake those pies. Visiting hours will be observed from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Little Zion Baptist Church in Opelousas, LA.
