Full Bloom — A Life Well-Lived Marietta Batiste Wallace was a woman of extraordinary grace, strength, intellect, and character. Her 93 years were defined by love, service, education, family, and an unwavering commitment to excellence and to making a difference in the lives of others. Marietta departed this life on August 30, 2026. She was born on June 1, 1933, in St. Martinville, Louisiana, to Paul and Maude Batiste, and was one of nine children. She embraced the values of family, perseverance, dignity, and faith—qualities that remained the foundation of her life. She graduated from Paul Breaux High School in May 1951, attended San Francisco State University, and later transferred to Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she earned both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master’s Degree. Marietta devoted more than 30 years to educating young people. She began her teaching career at James Stephens High School in Ville Platte, Louisiana, during segregation. Following integration in 1970, she continued teaching at Ville Platte High School and later was hired as a supervisor with the Evangeline Parish School Board until her retirement in 1999. Throughout her career, she taught with high expectations and genuine concern for her students and their families. In 1960, Marietta married Moses Wallace Jr. Their union was blessed with two children and a loving family that remained one of her greatest sources of joy and pride. She was a devoted wife and mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, beloved sister, aunt, and a treasured presence in the lives of many. She valued family traditions, gatherings and the bonds that connected generations. Marietta had an appreciation for beauty, elegance and finer things. Whether reflected in her personal style, fresh flowers in her surroundings, or in the gracious way she welcomed and entertained others, she took pride in the special touches that made life beautiful. Marietta lived a life of purpose. She served faithfully, gave generously, taught passionately, and led with wisdom and grace. Her greatest legacy is the people she helped shape. She planted seeds of confidence, knowledge, determination, and unlimited possibility in generations of students, family members, and all those blessed to know her. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Moses Wallace Jr., her parents; and several siblings. She leaves to cherish her memory, one sister, Geraline Mitchell, two children, three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, loved ones, and dear friends. Funeral services celebrating the life and legacy of Marietta Wallace will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at St. John Baptist Church in Ville Platte, LA. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM at the church prior to the service. Following the service, interment will take place in St. John Memorial Gardens. Pastor Freddie Jack will officiate the services.
