Dr. Martha Lee Bailey

To everything there is a season, a time to be born and a time to die. This is god’s appointed time. Ecclesiastes 3:1 "In the evening of my life, when the birds began to fly, I heard the voice of triumph, tears I began to cry, and I see my maker’s footprints up in the skies." On the morning of Tuesday, October 1, 2019, dr. Martha lee bailey entered into eternal peace in Houston, Tx. Dr. Martha lee bailey was born November 6, 1932 to the late Rev. Attmya Dewey Rash and Lillian Vaughn. She was baptized at an early age. Martha was united in marriage to Irinton James Lee Sr. and to this union one child was born. Martha Lee received her B.S. and M.A. Degrees in Early Childhood/Elementary Education from Southern University A & M College in Baton Rouge, LA. She later moved to Houston, Texas where she pursued a Doctorate of Education Degree at The University of Houston in Houston, Tx. After earning her Ed.D., Dr. Bailey began working at Prairie View A & M. University. For more than 30 years, she achieved so many accomplishments while working at Prairie View A & M University. She was Director of Student Teaching and Field Experiences and Early Childhood/Elementary Professor before retiring. Martha was the recipient of many awards throughout her years as an educator, she was a member of the “Order of Eastern Star, Mary Chapter of St. Landry Parish.", Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Phi Delta Kappa, Association for Childhood Education International, and served as state president for Texas Association for Childhood Education. She leaves to cherish her memory, a loving & devoted son, Irinton James Lee Jr. (Ruby D.) of Melville, LA, one grandchild, Kim Ebony Lee-Smith of Houston, TX, two great-grandchildren, Jordan Amari Smith and Kaleb Irinton Smith both of Houston, TX. She also leaves to cherish her memory a host of special nieces and nephews that she helped to raise: Lottie Brown Allen, Attmya Dewey Brown, Van Fleet Brown, Stephan Brown, Helen Brown Carey, and Anticus Brown, along with other relatives & friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Rev. Attmya Dewey Rash and Lillian Vaughn, her sister Evelyn Rash Brown, her brothers Johnnie Franklin and Willie Franklin, four aunts, Liza, Luevilla, Mary and Luebirtha , one nephew McKinley Brown, Jr., and one niece Stacy Brown. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, October 12, 2019 at Antioch Baptist Church in Melville, LA with viewing beginning at 8:00 A.M. and burial to follow in Sweet Home Cemetery, Melville, LA.
