Mrs. Marva Marie Bell

A Life Remembered Marva Marie Thierry Bell, 83, of Plaisance, LA, transitioned to her heavenly home on Sunday, April 12, 2026. “Blondie,” as she was affectionately known by family, was born on May 29, 1942, to the late Arthur, Sr., and Bessie Green Thierry, the seventh of seven siblings. Marva attended Plaisance High School for her primary and secondary education. After graduation, she attended Grambling State College where she attained a bachelor’s degree in physical education. While at Grambling, Marva pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Marva began her teaching career in Arnaudville, LA, where she taught Health and Physical Education. Upon moving to Los Angeles, CA in 1973, Marva pursued her Master of Arts in Educational Administration, plus 35 hours at Pepperdine University. She began her administrative career in Education as a Disciplinary Dean of Students at John C. Fremont High School and John Muir Jr. High School in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Marva met and married George Bell in 1976 and remained in California until relocating to her hometown of Plaisance, LA. When she relocated back to Louisiana, she taught Physical Education at Plaisance Elementary, Leonville Elementary, and North Central High School. She was a faithful and dedicated member of New Zion Baptist Church, where she served until her health began to fail. Marva was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur, Sr., and Bessie Green Thierry; four brothers, Leon Walter Thierry, Leonce Henry Thierry, Albert James Thierry, and Arthur Thierry, Jr.; and sister, Norma Jean Thierry Frank. She is survived by her husband, George Bell; son, James Gregory “Judah” Jones; sister, Yvonne Thierry Johnson; bonus children, Cheryl Bell, Brenda Bell, Mary Ann Bell-Anderson, Delores Nelson, and David Bell; two grandchildren, Diva Ariel Jones and Imani Marie Jones-Lyons (Colby); three great-grandchildren, Reign Brielle Richard, Sovereign Joelle Williams, and Apollo Gregory Lyons, along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Funeral services celebrating her beautiful life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Mohorn Baptist Church in the community of Plaisance, LA. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Allen Ben will lovingly officiate the services, leading a heartfelt celebration of a life well-lived and a spirit that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
