Ms. Mary Lou Thomas With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our beloved Mary Lou Thomas on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at the age of 66. Mary Lou was a bright light in the lives of all who knew her—full of laughter, love, and boundless kindness. Her warmth, joy, and gentle spirit left a lasting mark on everyone she met. Though she has left this world far too soon, her memory and the love she shared will forever live in our hearts. We will honor and celebrate the life of Mary Lou Thomas at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Williams Funeral Home in Opelousas, LA. Family and friends are invited to a visitation beginning at 8:00 AM at Williams Funeral Home. Following the service, Mary Lou will be laid to rest at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church Cemetery in Leonville, LA. Bishop Easton Shelvin will officiate the services. We invite all who knew and loved her to join us in remembering her beautiful life and the joy she brought to everyone around her. Mary Lou is lovingly survived by her children, Lashondra Thomas (Isaiah) of Leonville, LA, Kandace Thomas of Lawtell, LA, David Bell, Jr. (Raphael) of Lafayette, LA and Cijie Bell of Lake Charles, LA. She will be forever remembered and cherished by her six brothers, Johnny Thomas (Diane) of Carencro, LA; Dennis Thomas (Mackie), Phillip Thomas (Tiffany) and Micheal Roberts (Brenda) all of Port Barre, LA, Johnny Sam (Ursula) and Joe Lee Sam of New Iberia, LA; as well as her five sisters, Belinda Thomas (Louis) of Leonville, LA, Phyllis Carriere of Opelousas, LA, Janet Collins (Corey) of Carencro, LA, Martha Sam and Margie Sam both of New Iberia, LA and her step-father, James Joseph Roberts of Opelousas, LA. She also held a special place in the heart of her uncle, Clyde Thomas of Leonville, LA. Mary Lou’s love extended to a large and cherished family, twenty-one grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and her godchild/bonus daughter to her, Lakeisha Thomas (Darrius) of Carencro, LA. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and many beloved relatives and friends, all of whom were blessed by her warmth, guidance, and unwavering love. She was preceded in death by her loving mother, Mary Bernice Thomas and father, Joseph Sam; her grandparents, Louise Thomas and Preston Thomas, Sr.; three uncles, Preston Thomas, Jr., Raymond Thomas and Wilton Thomas; her aunt, Amanda Charles; her granddaughter, Takia Monae Henry and a dear cousin, Delia Charles.
