Mrs. Mona B. Giron

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA, for Mrs. Mona B. Giron, 63, who entered eternal rest, Monday, January 8, 2024, at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center. Mona Claire Boutte was born on August 8, 1960, to Louis and Helen Z. Boutte in Lafayette, LA. She was Christened, completed First Communion and Conformation at Holy Ghost Catholic Church where she was a life-long member. Mona worked for Opelousas General Health Systems for twenty years before retiring in 1999. On July 20, 1999, Mona married Donald E. Giron. Mona along with son Dwight I. Batiste and Donald relocated to Bartonville, IL where they lived for six years until Donald’s retirement in 2005. At that time, the family returned to Opelousas, LA. Where they built their dream home. Mona began her second career at Opelousas General Hospital Systems and retired in September 2022 as an Admission Coordinator. Mona was very devoted to her family and friends. She loved cooking from scratch and crocheting. She crocheted Afghans for family members and friends. She loved and spoiled her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and godchildren. She was an active “Sports Mom” attending Dwight’s baseball and football games. She traveled to London, England with Donald, Dwight, and Meagan. While in London she attended a Jaguars vs Colts football game at Wembley Stadium, attended a “Changing of the Guard” at Buckingham Palace and visited The British Museum. Her last trip was to Cancun, Mexico in May 2023 to celebrate her son’s and daughter-in-law’s ten-year wedding anniversary. Mona is survived by her husband of 24 years, Donald of Opelousas, LA; one son, Dwight and his wife Meagan; four grandchildren, Madison, Abby, Chase and London all of Houston, TX; one sister, Ester P. Jones; and a brother, Paul W. Pickney; a niece she helped rear, Tonya Richard; best friend, Florence Pickney; sister-in-law, Rosemary Walker (Irvin) of Lafayette, LA; brother-in-law, James Giron (Joan) of New Orleans, LA and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mona was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Helen Z. Boutte; a brother, James Worley Boutte; a sister, Dianne Jean Sibley; and father and mother-in-law, Asthon and Helen Giron. Visiting hours will be observed from 7:00 AM to 11:45 AM Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Williams Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Bellevue Memorial Park. Rev. Justin Arockiasamy, S.V.D. will officiate at the Mass of Christian burial.
