Lawtell, LA – A Mass of Christian Burial for Morris Lavergne, Sr. will be celebrated on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. in Holy Family Catholic Church, Lawtell, LA. Father Stanley Jawa will serve as a celebrant. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery in Lawtell, LA. Visitation will be held on the same day from 8:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. in Holy Family Catholic Church with a rosary being recited at 9:15 A.M. Morris was born on December 25, 1926 (Christmas Day) to Bernard and Louise Lavergne in Lawtell, LA. He was a lifelong resident of Lawtell, where he was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He was an active member of the Knights of Peter Claver; Father Pierre Council 40 where he served as treasurer for over 55 years. He was a proud World War II soldier who served his country overseas in Korea. He worked as a union laborer in the Lake Charles area plants and refineries for over 40 years. He was also a small family farmer for many years and also raised cattle. Morris departed this life on April 6, 2023, 2023. He was united in marriage for 75 years to Julia Lavergne. To this marriage union five children were born; three sons – Lt. Col. (ret.) Linton Lavergne of Lawtell, LA, Morris Lavergne, Jr. and wife Theresa of Lawtell, LA, Rev. Patrick Lavergne and wife Felicia of Lawtell, LA; two daughters, Glenda LeCompte and husband Ronald of Lake Charles, LA, Patricia Chavis and husband Kevin of Richmond, TX; (10) grandchildren, (21) great-grandchildren, (7) great-great-grandchildren and a special niece who was a big part of his life, Emelda Colomb, as well as, a host of family, loved ones and special friends who along with his children will all cherish his memory and celebrate his legacy. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Julia G, Lavergne; his parents, Bernard and Louise James Lavergne; three brothers, Lester, Freeman, and Henry Lavergne; four sisters, Mary Rogers-Francis, Elizabeth Winfrey, Rita Citizen and Georgiana (Anna) Manuel.
