Mr. Patrick Arthur Martel Jr.

Patrick Arthur Martel, Jr. Patrick (Pat) Arthur Martel Jr. entered this world on August 13, 1947. He was born to Mr. & Mrs. Patrick Martell Sr. (Evelyn Bourque) in Opelousas Louisiana. To this union, three children were born: Donna, Wayne and Patrick. Pat peacefully departed on Thursday, March 1, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, March 12, 2018 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA. Visiting hours will be observed from 11:00 AM to 12:45 PM at Williams Funeral Home. He attended Holy Ghost primary and Holy Ghost High school. After high school graduation, he attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he majored in Sociology. He pledged Kappa Alpha Psi in his sophomore year. He loved all sports but his favorite sport was basketball where he played in high school. He was very well versed in a variety of topics and was quite the intellectual in many subject areas. Patrick loved to fish. He was also an all-around handy man, taking after his father Patrick Sr., who was a professional painter. He appreciated all genres of music but he loved the blues the most. While in college, Pat met the love of his life Rosemary Ware in1966. In 1970, Pat came to Chicago, Illinois where he started work for the Social Security Administration for a short time. After leaving social security employment, he worked a short time as an elementary school teacher for Chicago Public Schools. After working in Chicago for a year and a half, he returned to Opelousas to marry his sweetheart, Rosemary Ware. Pat and Rosemary married in August 27, 1971. To this union two sons were born: Alexander Patrick and John Christopher. They shared an active life that included traveling and sharing fun times with family and friends. He adored all of his children: Kala, Alex and John. Pat learned early that teaching was not for him. He embarked on a career in sales and management, first at Sears Technology Services and IBM. After leaving IBM, Patrick started a consulting company Alliance. He later decided to become an entrepreneur and opened a successful consulting firm, Alliance, from which he retired at the age of 55. Pat is survived by his loving and devoted wife Rosemary; a son, John; a daughter, Kala and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A special heartfelt thank you to his diehard bro’ Alvin “Chubby, Moose” Haynes. Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Patrick Martel Sr., his sister Donna, his brother Wayne, and his first-born son Alex. Funeral services are entrusted to Williams Funeral Home of Opelousas, 337-942-2037.
