Mrs. Theresa Bernard Smith "Gee" PALMETTO- Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lebeau, Louisiana for Mrs. Theresa Bernard Smith, 79, who entered eternal rest on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at her residence in Palmetto, LA. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Father John O’Hallaran will conduct the Mass of Christian Burial. Theresa is survived by two sons, Alvin Brown, Sr., of Palmetto, LA and Dr. Theo Smith, Jr., of Jonesboro, GA; two daughters, Deloris Johnson (Abraham) and Mayolia Johnson (Robert Sr) both of Palmetto; two stepsons, Calvin Phoenix (Tangela) of Corpus Christi, TX and Donald Edwards of Palmetto; stepdaughters, Shirley Johnson of Baton Rouge, LA and Wanda Fay Phoenix of Waxo, TX; a special friend who was like a daughter, Mercedes Davis of Palmetto; eight brothers, Thaman Romar (Lula Mae), Jessie Romar, Warren Romar (Annie), Gilbert Romar, Kenneth Romar (Gertrude), all of Palmetto; Earnest Romar (Preella) and Curtis Romar (Marie) of Beaumont, TX and Daniel Romar (Willie Mae ) of Houston, TX; four sisters, Molly R. Sostand, Dorothy R. Pickens, Jeanet R. Fellows, all of Houston, TX and Mary Louise Romar Simon of Palmetto; in-laws, Joe Lee Smith of Lake Charles, Dorothy (IV) McKinney, LaPlace, Dan Smith, of Texas City, TX, James (Linda) Smith, of Palmetto, Thelma Garvy of Calif., Lucille Bernard, of Beaumont, TX, Nancy B. Linton, Carrie B. Coleman, Hazel (Arthur) B. Knatt, Dorothy (Ennis) B. Green, Lillie B. Parker, Beverly B. Hatchett, and Vianna R. Brown; four godchildren, Dennis Simon, Paula Bernard, Lawrence Edwards, and Rose Wilson; nine grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, eight step grandchildren, eleven step great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Theresa was preceded in death by her father, Leon Bernard; mother, Bernadette Romar Bernard; uncle and aunt who raised her after the death of her parents, Thomas Romar and Theresa Rideau Romar; husbands, Thomas J. Brown, Jr., and Theo Smith, Sr.; a brother, Raymond Bernard; one brother-in-law, Theodore F. Brown, and step granddaughter, Anyata M. Johnson. Theresa’s family would like to extend a special thanks to her cousin and caregiver, Barbara “Woman” Simon and St. Joseph Hospice. Visiting hours will be observed from 9:00 AM until 10:45 AM Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lebeau. A rosary will be recited at 10:00 AM.
