Mr. Wade Hamilton Batiste OPELOUSAS- A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church for Mr. Wade Hamilton Batiste, 55. Wade peacefully departed his earthly life to take his place with God on Friday, November 28, 2014 while aboard Carnival “Dream” Cruise Line, in Cozumel, Mexico. Interment will be in Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas, Louisiana. Father Jaison Mangalath, SVD will conduct the Mass of Christian Burial. One of six children and a native and lifelong resident of Opelousas, Louisiana, Mr. Wade Hamilton Batiste was born December 20, 1958 to the late Vivian Curtis Batiste and Joyce Marie Moore-Batiste. Through it all he was a very devoted brother, uncle, God father and friend until his passing. Wade graduated from Opelousas High School in 1976, thereafter attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing. Wade became a Child Welfare Specialist in 1982 for the Department of Children and Family Services. During his 32 years of dedicated service he successfully completed many hours of professional development courses related to his profession in addition to becoming a supervisor in the Opelousas office for the last six years and representative to the FINS board for the DCFS. He was an active and long standing member of Iota Xi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. where he served diligently as secretary of his local chapter. In addition to being an active participant on the district, regional, and national level, he also became a lifetime member of his beloved fraternity. He served on the Pharaoh Council, the Initial Membership Development Process Team, and The National Pan-Hellenic Council. Wade was also a steadfast supporter of the Boys and Girls Club of Acadiana, as well as an active member of ULL Alumni and avid ULL fan. Wade was dependable, hardworking, firm, and always professional. He was a perfectionist, who was neat, orderly, and impeccably dressed. He was a wonderful caregiver to many family members and friends. He was also a Notary Public, who loved to travel, enjoyed hotel living, planning, organizing events, cooking, and socializing with friends and family. Wade leaves to cherish his memories and carry on his legacy, one sister, Irma Jean Batiste, of Opelousas, Louisiana; five brothers, Herbert Batiste (Emma), of Arnaudville, Louisiana, Herman Batiste (Charlotte) of Opelousas, Louisiana, Solomon Batiste of Lafayette, Louisiana, Lawrence Batiste (Phyllis), and Willie Thomas both of Houston Texas. He also leaves to mourn his passing two special nieces and a nephew whom he helped raise; Christel M. Briggs, Samantha Daniel, and Devon C. Batiste, a host of God-children, nieces, nephews, other relatives, fraternity brothers, and friends. In addition to his mother and father, Vivian Curtis Batiste and Joyce Marie Moore-Batiste Wade is now rejoicing in glory with his step-mother, Mary Lou Lewis-Batiste, one niece, Chavonda Marie Batiste, and one nephew, Herman C. Batiste, Jr. Visiting hours will be observed from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Friday, December 5, 2014 at Williams Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue at the funeral home from 7:00 AM until 10:30 AM Saturday, December 6, 2014.
