Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 16, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. at Holy Ghost Catholic Church for Ann Orbro, 72. Interment will take place in Bellevue Memorial Park. Father Lambert Lien, Pastor of Holy Ghost Catholic Church will officiate the Mass of Christian Burial. Ann Marie Orbro, of Beaumont, Texas, passed away in her home, on August 25, 2021. Ann was born on October 13, 1948, in Opelousas, Louisiana, to George Orbro and Veronica Sylvester Orbro. She graduated from Holy Ghost High School in 1966. After graduating, she went on to attend Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Later, she earned a bachelor of science in English and journalism and a master of education from Lamar University. Growing up, Ann spent lots of time with her grandmother, Stella Roberts Sylvester. It was at her grandmother’s café, The Hole in the Wall, where her love for cooking was cultivated. She developed a remarkable talent for creole cooking that won her awards in her adult life. The café dance floor was where Ann learned how to dance. She could zydeco and swing-out with the best. Whenever the opportunity arose, she didn’t miss the chance to go, La-La. Ann was devoted to education and her commitment to learning manifested in her teaching career of over 35 years. She taught at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic School, Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic School, and in the Beaumont Independent School District where she taught at Bowie Middle School, Smith Middle School, Ozen High School, and the Adult Learning Program. She taught adult literacy, sponsored the yearbook at Ozen, and excelled at teaching Advanced Placement (AP) English with 100% passing rates on assessments. She retired from her career in education in 2018. Ann was a member of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Incorporated, an organization for individuals actively engaged in the field of education. She also volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA). Ann was born and raised Catholic. She raised her children in a Catholic home. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church where she attended Mass regularly. Survivors include children, Andrea Lavergne; Michael Lavergne; Anthea Lavergne; Mark Orbro; and Angela Orbro; grandchildren, Kayla Bridges; Kiera (Quentin) Pollard; Taylor Smith; Mica Lavergne; David Piert, Jr; Jayslyn Lewis; Marcia Orbro; Lauren Lewis; Hana Lavergne; Dillen Pritchett; Michael Lavergne, Jr; Jerry White III; Brayla Orbro; and Paris Orbro; great-granddaughter, Zora Pollard; sisters, Maris Stella Orbro; and Daria Orbro Bryant; brothers, Damien Orbro; and Gerard Orbro; nieces, Danielle Orbro; Brittany Orbro; and Talia Orbro; nephews, Wesley Bryant; Nicholas Bryant; Damien Orbro, Jr.; and Sean Stevenson; cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews, many extended family members, and hosts of former students who consider her their family. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, George Michael Orbro. Services were held previously at Proctor’s Mortuary in Beaumont, TX. on Saturday, September 11, 2021. The family requests visiting hours be observed on Thursday, September 16, 2021 from 8:00 A.M. to 9:45 P.M. and a rosary will be recited at 8:30 at Williams Funeral Home of Opelousas, 817 E.
