Obituary for Calvin “Choppee” Citizen September 7, 1929- January 14, 2022 Church Point, Louisiana- Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 22, 2022, at Our Lady of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA for Mr. Calvin Citizen, age 92, who entered eternal rest, Friday, January 14, 2022, at Acadiana St. Landry’s Guest Home in Church Point, LA. Interment will be at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Cemetery #2 in Church Point, LA. Father Emmanuel O. Awe, SSJ. will officiate at the mass of Christian burial assisted by Father Rozas, pastor of Our Lady of Sacred Heart. Throughout the Southwest and surrounding areas, Calvin “Choppee” Citizen, was a well- known member of the community. He worked for CITI Services in Lake Charles, LA for over thirty years. He was a longtime member of the Knights of Peter Claver Council #79; he was also a member of the Socialite Club of Church Point. He operated a club, sponsored baseball games and trail rides, and he loved dancing and listening to zydeco music. Everywhere he went and every person he met, undoubtedly became a friend. He was our Renaissance man and lived a well life! Mr. Citizen is survived by his son, Joseph N. (Joyce) Handy of Jackson, MS; his daughters, Patricia H. (Clinton) Dye of Atlanta, GA; Janice Davis of Houston, TX; Marval Citizen of Katy, TX; his brother, Roger Citizen of Arlington, TX; his sisters, Perina Bellow of Rosharon, TX; Shirley (Willard) Hall of Houston, TX. His grandchildren, Shawn Bailey of Atlanta, GA; Joseph N. C. (Kierra) Handy; Joelle F. Handy of Jackson, MS; Jonathon F. (Cherita) Handy of Columbia, MD; Nickolas Citizen of Victoria, TX; Tasha LeBlanc of Fresno, TX; Christopher Davis of Houston, TX; Tonya Davis of Houston, TX; Nichelle (Roy) Crowley of Katy, TX; his great-grandchildren Karter Handy of Jackson, MS; Shawn, Julian, and Sarai Handy, all of Columbia, MD; Abijah, Anihalle, & Alivia Bailey, all of Atlanta, GA; Jacob Citizen of Dallas, TX; Kelsey and Kayla LeBlanc of Fresno, TX; Cassidy, Christopher, Jaliyah & Journee Davis, all of Houston, TX; Kaiden Davis of Houston, TX; Lainey, Zoey, and Caylon Crowley, all of Katy, TX; special cousins, Becky Singleton and Paul “Cowboy” Citizen, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Mr. Citizen is preceded in death by his wife Lucille Guillory Citizen, his parents, Lucien and Julia Leger Citizen; one brother Rodney Citizen, and sisters Jenora Thibodeaux, Nelda Gobert, Nelma Guillory, and Loretta Guillory. Visitation will be observed from 7:00 A.M to 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 22, 2022, at Williams Funeral Home in Opelousas, LA.
