Ms. Elnora H. Williams
March 9, 1923 - May 29, 2022
Elnora H. Williams In Washington, Louisiana on the blessed day of March 9, 1923, Elnora was the third child born to Christian parents, Joe and Mary Henry, both of whom preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were: her sister, Josephine Buck and one brother, Carlton Henry. Elnora’s mother passed when she was three years old and the childrearing that was continuously deposited on Elnora’s life by her father and sister afforded her a remarkable life of 99 years. She was baptized and accepted Christ at an early age, and attended public school in Opelousas, Louisiana. In 1938, Elnora was blessed to have one child – Lula “Edna” Guidry. Elnora lived a glorious life raising her daughter and serving God. In 1949, Elnora met and married yet another love of her life – Audrey (A.K.A. Poppie) Williams; who also preceded her in death. To this union, she gained a son -Joseph Barlow of Oakland, CA and one daughter, Angelina Woods of Carencro, LA. Elnora loved the Lord and served as “Mother” of Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the now leadership of Pastor Johnny R. Offord until she became ill. Elnora worked tirelessly at the church and was known to have her grandchildren with her at church when she prepared Communion. Elnora was a dutiful housewife and ensured that home-cooked meals were prepared for the family – three times a day. She especially enjoyed baking and preparing favorite meals for all family members. She was also gifted in making quilts. She enjoyed fishing so much so until she, her sister, and Poppie would get up early in the mornings, prepare lunch for the day and go fishing at least twice a week. After the passing of her beloved husband, Elnora moved to Houston to be with her daughter. She remained a member of Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church until her passing. Although leaving Louisiana, she never left Greater New Hope and they never left her. Before her husband past and she relocated to Houston, the Church would always prepare healthy meals and made sure they were okay at all times. Pastor Offord continued to check on Elnora until her passing. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, June 11, 2022 at True Fellowship Baptist Church in Plaisance, LA. Visiting hours will be observed from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the church. Burial will follow in Serenity Memorial Park in Opelousas, LA. Pastor Johnny Offord will officiate at the services. Elnora departed this earthly life on Sunday, May 29, 2022. She leaves to mourn her passing, yet cherish her memories, one son, Joseph Barlow of Oakland, CA; one daughter, Angelina Woods of Carencro, LA; two granddaughters, Karen Faye (Jeffery) and Felicia Renee; four great-grandchildren, Joaquin McGowan, Ashley Jackson, Jessica McGowan, and Alexis Taylor all of Houston, TX; six great great-grandchildren, Briyanna, Maliyah, Josiah McGowan, Jamari and Jamir Williams, Karter Anthony Jackson all of Houston, TX and Zion of New Orleans, LA; one Goddaughter, Bessie Lee Williams of Opelousas, LA.
