Ms. Rosemary Richard

Rose Mary Thomas Richard was born on March 7, 1939 in Leonville to the union of Carlton Thomas and Lucille Alsandor Thomas. “To be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.” (2 Corinthians 5:8) Rose departed this life of 83 years to enter into eternal rest on March 29, 2022. Rose was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church and had served many years as a Eucharistic Minister. Not only was she a dedicated member of both her community and church, Rose was a prayer warrior for her family, her friends and anyone whose path she crossed. Many depended and called on her for prayer. She was a wonderful example of faith, hope and love! Rose left her mark giving thirty-two years of service to the St. Landry Parish School Board where she worked within the school food service at Leonville Elementary School and Leonville High School. Most importantly, Rose endeared her life to the role of mother. Affectionately known as “Mama” Rose, upon her retirement one of her greatest joys in life was nurturing and cultivating her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memories: a son, Joseph (Darlene) Richard, Jr. of Port Barre, LA; her three daughters, Jacqueline (Allen) Mayon, Sr. of Opelousas, LA, Gwendolyn (Kevin) Richard-White and Elizabeth Richard both of Riverside CA; three brothers, Joseph J. Thomas and Joseph L. (Earline) Thomas both of Leonville, LA and Carlton S. (Linda) Thomas, Jr. of Opelousas, LA; four sisters, Philoman Mayon of Leonville, LA, Felozia Reed and Elizabeth Green (Ronald), both of Houston, TX and Jeanella T. Beverly of Lewisburg, LA; brothers-in-law, Jimmy Williams and Robert Richard both of Opelousas, LA, Paul Richard of Baton Rouge, LA, Dr. Floyd Richard of Brentwood, TN; sisters-in-law, Geraldine Thomas of Leonville, LA, Ida Richard of Atlanta, GA, Theresa Carmen and Juanita Richard both of Baton Rouge, LA, Eva Briscoe and Betty Richard of Opelousas, LA, Lillie Brown of Silver Spring, MD, Ruby Patin of Seattle, WA, Hilda Whittington of Chicago, IL, Dr. Gloria Richard-Davis of Little Rock, AR; eleven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, prayer partners and friends. She is preceded in death by: her husband, Joseph Richard, Sr. and his parents, John Goldman Richard and Hester Dejean Richard; her parents, Carlton Thomas, Sr. and Lucille Alsandor Thomas; two brothers, Joseph Henry Thomas and Harold Thomas; three sisters, Verlia Lewis, Verna Johnson and Lou Anna Williams; brothers-in-law, Ulton Mayon, Sr., Ernest Reed, Joseph Lewis, Sr., Paul Johnson, Sr., J.C. Beverly, John Richard and Daniel Richard; one sister-in-law, Selina Thomas. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 9, 2022 at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Leonville, LA. Visiting hours will be observed from 8:00 AM to 10:15 AM Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Williams Funeral Home in Opelousas, LA. A Rosary will be recited at 9:00 AM. Interment will be in St. Leo the Great Catholic Church Cemetery.
