Mrs. Barbara Etta Zachary With hearts full of love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Mrs. Barbara Etta Zachary, who passed peacefully into eternal rest on Friday, October 24, 2025, at the age of 93. Surrounded by family and wrapped in the grace of God’s love, she left this world just as she lived in it—with faith, dignity and an open heart. Barbara met the love of her life, Eugene, in 1965. Together, they built a beautiful life in San Francisco, California. After retiring, they discovered a shared passion for travel and especially enjoyed spending time together on cruises. In 2003, they returned to Opelousas to be closer to their family and lifelong friends. They made their home at C’est La Vie Independent Living Facility, where they continued to create cherished memories and share their joy for life with everyone around them. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, October 31, 2025, at Holy Ghost Parish Life Center in Opelousas, Louisiana, with Rev. Justin Arockiasamy, S.V.D. officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery. Barbara is lovingly remembered by her cherished nieces, Sherlyn and Franchetta Wyble both of New Orleans, LA; one nephew, Kirk Wyble (Jennifer) of Ocalla, FL; one great nephew, Eric Giron of Pearland, TX; as well as a host of devoted relatives and dear friends, who held a special place in her heart. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband and soulmate, Eugene Zachary, the love of her life; her parents, Theo and Eloise Lemelle Gailes; three sisters, Gloria Giron, Eloise Wyble and Delores Gailes; one brother, Joseph Gailes; two brothers-in-law, Cleveland Wyble and Elbert Giron; two nieces, Karen Gailes and Debra Giron. Family and friends are invited to gather in love and remembrance during visitation at Williams Funeral Home on Friday, October 31, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. A Rosary will be recited at 10:30 AM, a reflection of Barbara’s deep devotion to her faith.
