Mr. Donald Wayne Lewis

“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:6–7 The world often thinks of death as a destroyer of all things but let us think of death as a deliverer—coming to free one from the bondage of the flesh. We associate it with going away; let us think of it as arriving. As the voice of death whispers, “You must change homes,” let us hear the voice of Christ saying, “You are but coming to Me. You shall not die, but live.” Donald Wayne Lewis is now at peace with God and rejoicing in his heavenly home. The angel of death came on Friday, February 6, 2026, and called Donald to his eternal rest. He was a blessing given by God to Samuel Lewis, Jr. and Gladys Keyes Lewis, born on August 1, 1954, in Opelousas, Louisiana. He was a proud graduate of Opelousas High School. Donald was a faithful and active member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church until he began living with a significant disability. He was passionate and consistent in donating relief funds to underprivileged children. A skilled handyman, Donald especially enjoyed creating Christian woodworks, reflecting both his faith and his generous spirit. He lived with pain for several years, but now—no more. He has stepped across the threshold we call death, but it was only a step into another room, where there is no need for crutches. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Lewis, Jr. and Gladys Keyes Lewis, and by his sister, Norma Jean Lewis Richard. Mourning his departure yet cherishing the memory of his love and devotion are his brother, Harold James Lewis (Brenda) of Monroe, Louisiana; one niece, Allana Patrice Lewis of Atlanta, Georgia; two nephews, Simeon Vashon Lewis (Shannon) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Harold Jamar Lewis (Maya) of Phoenix, Arizona; along with other relatives and dear friends. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Opelousas, Louisiana. The Mass will be officiated by Rev. Justin Arockiasamy, S.V.D.
