Mr. James Everett Lastrapes

Mr. James Everett Lastrapes “Cap” James Everett (Cap) Lastrapes was born on November 5, 1929 in Opelousas Louisiana to Henley Lastrapes and Wilda Shows Lastrapes. He was the fifth of eleven children. He entered eternal rest on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at Acadia Saint Landry Guest Home in Church Point Louisiana. Cap spent five years at the Seminary in Bay St. Louis Mississippi. He graduated from Holy Ghost High School in Opelousas. Cap was a graduate of Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics. He was employed by St. Landry Parish School Board where he taught mathematics at Charles Drew High School in Eunice, Louisiana. He was member of the Retired Teachers Association of St. Landry Parish. Cap served in the United States Air Force where he had a distinguished career and achieved the rank of Staff Sargent and also was awarded the Natl Def SV Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged August 2, 1955. He was a Brick Mason helper and worked in the Maritime industry in Houston Texas. Cap was a beautiful person with a keen sense of humor that his family and friends enjoyed. He relished his skills at playing cards. Cap leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of Fifty-Eight (58) years, Mary Nell Fruge Lastrapes; two brothers, Jude C. Lastrapes and Don Enda Lastrapes (Patricia); three sisters, Euretta Lee (George), Vivian Sigrid Donatto and Paula Marie Williams and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Cap was proceeded in death by his parents, Henley and Wilda Lastrapes as well as his stepmother, Grace Lastrapes; two sisters, Ann Izola Chenier and Augustine Simon; three brothers, Thomas Ira Lastrapes, Hennessa Lastrapes and Anthony Henly (Rags) Lastrapes. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA. Visiting hours will be observed from 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the church. Burial will be in Bellevue Memorial Park.
