Joseph Daniel “Roc” Davis Joseph Daniel “Roc” Davis was born on September 2, 1980 to Joseph Davis and Beverly Dixon. Daniel accepted Christ in 1989, under the leadership of Rev. Frank Green at St Mary Missionary Baptist Church. Daniel graduated from Beau Chene High School in 1999. He was a member of the Beau Chene Gator boys basketball team. Anyone who knows him knows he loved basketball even after graduating. After graduating he found his career with Acuren where he worked as a Non-Destructive Tester for many years. Daniel was the founder of Roc’s Training Academy. He helped young men and young ladies who love the game of basketball train beyond their potential. Anyone who had a conversation with him knows it was about sports. His favorite teams were New Orleans Saints and Boston Celtics. Daniel had a bright smile that would light up a room. He was such a caring and gentle person. He would do anything to help the next person. Daniel enjoyed spending time with family especially his nieces, nephews and granddaughter. Everyone was a potapus in his eyes and we still don’t know what it means. His response to them, when they said what to him was “Whataburger”. It was never a dull moment around Uncle D. If it was, he could yell and scare the crap out of you. Daniel would put on a clown mask and pop out of nowhere with it on. He had a vibrant personality. Daniel leaves behind his parents, Joseph (JoAnn) Davis of Leonville, LA and Beverly (Steven) Dixon of Baton Rouge, LA; one sister, Rosalyn Davis of Baton Rouge, LA; two brothers, Walter (Ebonie) Davis of Houston, TX and Carlos (Brianna) Davis of Lafayette, LA, two sons he raised as his own, D’Montay Thomas and Sukarno Smith both of Leonville, LA; a special friend, Lauren Jones of Leonville, LA; a granddaughter, Kennedi Thomas of Opelousas, LA; four nieces, Kyla Thomas, Kelsi Thomas, Milan Davis, and Kharlie Williams; four nephews, Cruz Davis, Kade Davis, Walter Davis, II, Aiden Brown and Cayden Broadnx and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Daniel was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilton Davis Sr and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Robertson; two uncles he was close to, Wilton Davis and Lawrence Davis; two aunts whom he was close to Shirley Davis and Lisa Ledoux. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Greater Shiloh Baptist Church in Opelousas, LA. Viewing will begin at 8:00 AM. Interment will be in St. Mary Baptist Church Cemetery in Port Barre, LA. Rev. Kyle Sylvester will officiate the service.
