Mrs. Mary Marceline Romar A beautiful celebration of life honoring the remarkable journey and cherished legacy of Mrs. Mary Marceline Romar, 90, will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Greater Shiloh Baptist Church in Opelousas, LA. Mrs. Romar peacefully entered eternal rest on Friday, September 11, 2026, at her residence in Opelousas, LA. Visitation will begin at 8:00 AM Saturday at Greater Shiloh Baptist Church and will continue until the time of service. Pastor Kyle Sylvester, Sr. of St. Mary Baptist Church will officiate the services. Following the celebration, Mrs. Romar will be lovingly laid to rest in Garden of Memory Cemetery. Mary was a devoted believer in Christ whose faith was an important part of her life. She loved the Lord wholeheartedly and carried her faith with her throughout her journey. Her trust in God remained a source of strength, comfort, and guidance, and she lived with the assurance of His love and grace. Mary had an undeniable love for fashion and was truly the original fashionista. A beautiful dresser with a style all her own, she took great pride in looking her best and had a natural flair for putting together the perfect look. Whenever Mary stepped out, she did so with confidence, grace, and elegance—always dressed to impress and looking absolutely fabulous. Mrs. Romar is survived by her husband, Leo Paul Romar; five sons, Leo Loenzo Romar (Ethel), Ronald Paul Vedell (Roxanne), Gerald Christopher Romar (Juanita), James Romar (Sandra) and Lonnie Gerard Romar (Chasity); two daughters, Debra Romar Sostand (Larry) and Lillian Romar Albert (Howard); one brother-in-law, Michael Romar; one bonus daughter, Elizabeth Lamb; three sisters-in-law, Ava Marie Duruisseau, Diane Romar and Gloria Romar; two special friends, Geraldine Andrus and Barbara Joseph; twenty-seven grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mary also leaves to cherish her memory three devoted caregivers who lovingly cared for and supported her throughout her journey; her beloved godchild, Ethel Mae Woods Williams; a special niece, Pauline Boagni and Dwanda Dabney, each of whom held a special place in her heart. Mrs. Romar was preceded in death by her parents, Noah Journet and Lucille Bob Journet; a daughter-in-law, Cecelia Romar; a granddaughter, Tyrainya Romar; one brother, Levy Journet; three sisters, Lillie Mae Adams, Mary Aline Woods and Vergie Mae Earnestine; six brothers-in-law, Lonnie Lawson, Mitchell Romar, Phillip Romar, Robert “Jeff” Romar, Antoine Woods and Raleigh Duruisseau; three sisters-in-law, Helen Romar, Betty Romar and Rose Romar.
