Mrs. Vivian Remi Mason

It is said that life is just a short walk from the cradle to the grave. We are here today to celebrate the life of Vivian Remi Mason, whose walk began November 17, 1936 in Opelousas, Louisiana. She was born to Joseph Remi, Sr. and Alice Elizabeth Manuel Remi. She departed this life on August 30, 2022. She was dedicated to her ministry as the coordinator of the Tabernacle choir at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Her love for music extended to playing the piano. In January of 2015, Holy Ghost Catholic Church awarded Vivian with the Martin Luther King, Jr. award for her vital role in the integration of the department store in Opelousas, La. She was a member of the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary Holy Ghost Court 8 and Knights of Peter Claver Ladies of Grace Mother Katharine Drexel Chapter 7. She is a retired nurse of Opelousas General Health System. On December 29, 1956 she married Joe C. Mason. With this union 7 children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe C. Mason; a daughter, Carmen Mason Davis, a son-in-law, Freddie Auzenne; a grandson, Donovan Guidry; her parents, Joseph and Alice Elizabeth Remi; a brother, Joseph Remi Jr.; sisters, Evelyn Jones, Clementine Davis, Theresa Jones, Gustavia Meullion, Sr., Frances Therese Remi and Lillian Remi. She leaves to mourn two sons, Wendell Mason Sr. (Laura) of Opelousas, LA and Darryl Mason (Mary) Opelousas, LA; four daughters, Constance Mason Auzenne, Marian Mason Wesley (Tyrone) both of Lafayette, Karen Mason Burks (Allen) of Baton Rouge, LA and Chardia E. Mason of Atlanta, GA; one brother-in -law, William C. Mason (Thelma) of Opelousas, LA, one sister-in-law, Dorothy Mason of Opelousas, LA; ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephew, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA. Visiting hours will be observed from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM Friday, September 2, 2022 at Williams Funeral Home in Opelousas, LA and Saturday, September 3, 2022 from 8:45 AM to 9:45 AM Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Cemetery in Grand Coteau, LA. Rev. Justin Arockiasamy, S.V.D. will officiate at the Mass of Christian burial.
